The Musical & Amicable Society takes its name from a music society based in Birmingham founded in 1762 by enthusiastic impressario James Kempson. Kempson and his fellow musicians would meet at 'Cooke's in the Cherry Orchard', a local tavern on a regular basis "for practice and recreation". read more...
